The Story of Bottled Water, released on March 22, 2010 (World Water Day) employs the Story of Stuff style to tell the story of manufactured demand—how you get Americans to buy more than half a billion bottles of water every week when it already flows from the tap. Over five minutes, the film explores the bottled water industrys attacks on tap water and its use of seductive, environmental-themed advertising to cover up the mountains of plastic waste it produces. The film concludes with a call to take back the tap, not only by making a personal commitment to avoid bottled water, but by supporting investments in clean, available tap water for all.
Our production partners on the bottled water film include five leading sustainability groups: Corporate Accountability International, Environmental Working Group, Food & Water Watch, Pacific Institute, and Polaris Institute.

@madddawgmad777 the point here is to stop wasting money in buying bottled water, and instead invest it in our water infrastructure. We should not be carrying around a new plastic bottle each day that will end up in a land fill, when we can instead use a "clean canteen".

@madddawgmad777 She's not saying we should ban the right to purchase bottled water, but that city and school funds should not be spent on bottled water when it could be used to improve the quality and ease of access to clean tap water.

great video.........I remember when the big city Dairy I worked for started putting milk in gallon(4 Liter) plastic jugs........I wondered where all that plastic would end up.
Later we started filtering tap water and bottling it in plastic jugs too.We did use plastic even before the jug.......they had a machine that put the milk in clear plastic pouches. You may remember them.

I bought a Brita water pitcher with a filter for about $20. I have one in my fridge at home and one on my desk at work. I get clean, tasty water with no inconvenience. I can't tell you how much money I saved. Bottle water can cost more than gas.

This is total bullshit. I can clearly taste the difference between bottled water and tap. Bottled water doesn't have the nasty chlorine taste. Go push your hippie agenda elsewhere

why we buy bottled ... ( 4 days ago by melvinissex)
why we buy bottled water like Fiji? From what i know, Fiji uses artesian water. This is one of the most natural sources of water. What our tap has is water which undergone reverse osmosis, and then ADDED WITH FLUORIDE. From where I come from (Singapore), this is also being practiced. Many people don't realize it, but our water, which we use for many purposes, including showering and cooking soups contains fluoride. Why is it bad? Look it up on Google.

Too bad Fijians are suffering from typhoid and parasite outbreaks in the water they can afford :(

@Aphrophis The bottled water companies take the water from mountain sources. Sometimes they use a chlorine treatment, most of them only filtration. A 20L bottle cost 20 Bs.F (nearly 2,oo US$). After use the water, the companies takes the bottle and give you a full one (and you should pay again).
Our pulic water system use a lagoon who is receiveing sewage. It's easy to know when a bottled water companies uses such water, and they usually fall in bankrupcy. This is Valencia, Venezuela.

There is plenty of places where the tap water tastes like a swimming pool. I know the nitrate levels where I live are extremely high in tap water. I'll stick to the cheap Wal-Mart reverse osmosis water.

And what about the chemicals released BY the bottle itself in the water inside, when it's heated or frozen !!! It all goes into your body...creating cancer. Yes, we have to wake up, bottled water is NOT better than tap. We've been brainwashed...
