would the smell of the markers not deter the fish? any ideas on what brand of markers is good?
I like this idea though for the unique and hard to find colors like hot pink, and for matching the color variations of local pray such as my very blue bluegills.

Yes, it'll wear off in time, or you can wipe it off with meths or acetone. However, I only do this on plain metal, I wouldn't do this if your spoon already has a pattern, solvents will wreck it. By the way, you can get a nice dappled effect if you ink up a rag and dab it on. also you can try typex correcting fluid for dots and eyes. You can get a nice brown tout pattern with black dapple on copper with typex dots with red centres. Whatever, it's fun to experiment.

As the good man ... ( 5 months ago by thenitropro)
As the good man Gerald Swindle said once, keep it simple! And this to me is wasting time if the fish aren't going to bite my arsenal of lures including the spoon without the paint. I just don't see a really scented marker helping me in my day of fishing. I think what painting it does is give more confidence to people which in terms they fish better. I don't think it has anything to do with the actual markers on a spoon. Sometimes it's good to add color to some baits, i'm just not a marker fan.
@thenitropro I ... ( 4 months ago by GoldenRetriever5678)
@thenitropro I couldn't agree more. Let your kids do the coloring. The only change I ever made to a spoon was grinding all the chipped or damaged paint off. Having confidence in your lure is important so start there. Leave the markers home.
