Carp fishing isn't really that big here. It is more of a British thing if I am not mistaken. Carp are usually caught accidentally while catfishing, at least in my experience. Also carp aren't considered a food fish here by most people. Even if they aren't a food fish, however, they can get pretty big and are fun to catch.

Here in the US these are an invasive species that displace more desirable native fish. I understand they are an important food source in asia but here they are out of control and destructive to our ecosystem. That is why we destroy them as often as possible. They just don't belong here. We have river bottom farm that is at the junction of two rivers and in the spring there are literaly thousands of them spawning in the shallow water.

In 1871, President Grant created a fish commission to oversee the countries fisheries, by 1877 they imported 345 carp. He did this because at that time the people living here were destroying the waterways along with the native fish and needed to find replacements.We are to blame,not carp, since as humans we have never found a way to coexist with nature. When is the last time you went to fish and found no trash anywhere, or haven't seen a fish advisory due to pollution? Carp are just scape goats.

actually, carp have throat teeth. impossible as it seems, carp have plates in their throats that allow them to grind up what food is sucked up. (carp and koi, which are the same thing, eat almost anything.)

ye no, they are actually teeth. Have seen pics they look like human teeth, 2 on top 2 on bottom. same with chub/barbel. im also a carp fisherman ;)
